Alyson Shotz sculpture for Stanford University

The challenge in creating Alyson’s sculpture—which was 60 feet long, made of dichroic plastic and aluminum, and to hang from the ceiling—was producing around 10,000 acrylic parts, along with 3,000 aluminum ribs, to be welded together to create the lattice structure. After completing the original production plan and engineering, I needed to devise a batch method of file creation and part-marking in order to streamline production and final assembly. Thorough planning and laser etching of each part allowed for a streamlined, rolling production and completion on an aggressive schedule.

Services provided: Design-engineering, 3D modeling, file creation, project management, installation management.
